Must-Try Food in Yunxi County
Yunxi Matou Lamb
A specialty of Yunxi, named because the sheep look like horses' heads. The meat is tender and free of mutton smell. It can be braised in brown sauce, stewed in clear soup or made into mutton soup. It is a good tonic in winter in the local area and has been listed as a national geographical indication product.
Banqiao Dried Tofu
Originated from Banqiao Town, Yunxi County, made with local soybeans and mountain spring water, processed through 18 procedures. It has a chewy texture and a salty and fragrant taste. It can be eaten directly or stir-fried, and is a classic specialty of Yunxi.
Tianhe Whole Fish Banquet
Using crucian carp, silver carp and perch from Tianhe River in Yunxi as ingredients, it has various cooking methods such as steaming, pan-frying and soup making. The meat is fresh and tender, reflecting the dietary characteristics of Tianhe fishermen. It is more flavorful when paired with local sauerkraut.
Qixi Qiaoguo (Qixi Festival Pastry)
A traditional pastry for the Qixi Festival in Yunxi, made with flour, sesame and sugar, shaped into magpie bridges, Cowherd and Weaver Girl, etc., implying a happy love life. It tastes crispy and sweet, and is a must-have food for the festival.
